Advanced: Assign Static IP to Computer - Windows 98
Part 1: Determine your current
Network Settings
- Connect your PC directly to your high-speed modem and confirm you
are able to access the Internet.
- Click the Start menu and click Run.

- In the Run dialog box, type winipcfg in the Open: field then click
OK.

- From the drop down menu in
the IP Configuration window, select your Ethernet adapter and then click More Info.

- Write down the DNS Servers
address from the field at the top of the new window. If there are any
numbers in the Primary WINS Server and Secondary WINS Server fields, write
these down as well.

- Click the ellipsis icon next
to DNS servers. When the window refreshes write down the new DNS Servers
address that is displayed.
 
- Shut down the computer.
Part 2: Configure
your PC to a static IP setting
- Connect an Ethernet cable
from the Ethernet port on your broadband modem to the WAN port on the back
of the Lingo adapter.
- Connect a second Ethernet
cable from the ENET port on the back of the Lingo adapter to the Ethernet
port on the computer.
- Turn on the computer.
- Click on the Start Menu, click Settings and then click Control Panel.

- In the Control Panel window, double click on the Network icon.
 
- Select the TCP/IP option for the Ethernet
adapter you will be using to connect to your Lingo device and then select Properties.

- In the TCP/IP Properties window,
click the IP Address tab and
then click the button for Specify
an IP address. In the IP Address field enter 172.25.25.2 and in the
Subnet Mask field enter 255.255.255.0
 
- Click the Gateway tab. In the New gateway
field enter 172.25.25.1 and then click Add.
 
- Click the DNS Configuration tab and then
click the button for Enable DNS. In the field below DNS Server Search Order, fill in the value of the first DNS
Servers address that you obtained in Part 1 and click Add.
 
- Now in the field below DNS Server Search Order, fill in
the value of the second DNS Servers address that you obtained in Part 1
and click Add.
 
- Enter a name for this
computer in the Host field. The
name can be anything you choose, such as Home or Office. If you did not
have any WINS Servers in Part 1, click OK and go to step 13. If you did have WINS Servers in Part 1
go to step 12.
 
- Click the WINS Configuration tab and then
click the button for Enable WINS
Resolution. In the field
below WINS Server Search Order,
fill in the value of the first WINS Server address that you obtained in
Part 1 and click Add.

- Now in the field below WINS Server Search Order, fill in
the value of the second WINS Server address that you obtained in Part 1
and click Add. Click OK.
- You will now be prompted to
restart your computer. Close all open programs and click Yes.

- After the computer restarts, click the Start menu and click Run.

- In the Run dialog box, type winipcfg in the Open: field then click
OK.

- From the drop down menu in
the IP Configuration window, select your Ethernet adapter. Confirm that
the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway values match those you
entered in Part 2 of these instructions. If they do not confirm that your
computer is correctly connected to your high-speed modem and the Lingo
adapter. Click More Info.

- Confirm that the Host Name,
DNS Servers and, if applicable, WINS Servers values match those you
entered in Part 2 of these instructions.

- Click OK to close the open windows.
You should now have Internet connectivity.
