Lingo Advanced with Multiple Computers (Recommended)*
In order to start using your Lingo VoIP service, you will need to
install your Lingo Phone Adapter. Please read the following VoIP setup instructions
for multiple computers carefully.
NOTE: If you currently use a USB connection between
your computer and your Cable/DSL modem, you will need to upgrade
to an Ethernet connection. This may require you to purchase
and install a Network Interface Card (NIC) for your computer.
This is the preferred method for connecting your network
to Lingo's VoIP service. This set up allows your Lingo Phone Adapter to prioritize
your voice traffic over your data traffic, thus providing
you with greater consistency of call quality.
What you will need:
- Two Ethernet cables (a green one is
included in your start-up kit).
- One standard phone line (two are
included in your start-up kit).
- One standard analog phone.
- The Lingo Phone Adapter.
- The Lingo Phone Adapter power supply.
- Turn off the power for all the devices on your network,
including your Cable/DSL modem to your broadband connection, and computer.
- Connect an Ethernet cable (the green one included with
your Lingo device or another cable just like it) from the
Cable/DSL modem’s Ethernet port to the WAN port on the back
of the Lingo Phone Adapter.
- Connect a second Ethernet cable from the ENET port on
the back of the Lingo Phone Adapter to the WAN port on the router.
- Connect a standard analog telephone to the PH1 port on
the back of the Lingo Phone Adapter using a standard phone line.
(Note: any phone designed for residential use is an analog
phone and will work. For cordless phone systems, make sure
you are connecting to the base/transmitter).
- Turn on the Cable/DSL modem. Wait until it is successfully
connected (see your modem’s user manual or contact your
ISP if you are unsure of how to tell when the modem is connected
to your broadband connection).
- Connect the provided power cable to the POWER port on
the back of the Lingo Phone Adapter, connect other end to any standard
home power outlet (wall plug, surge-protector, etc).
- Verify the green POWER light on the front of the Lingo
Phone Adapter is a steady green. If it is not, check your power
connection again
- The WAN light on the front of the Lingo Phone Adapter will begin
as a steady green, then start flashing as it connects to
the internet through your broadband connection
(you may hear a soft “click” sound. This is
normal).
- While the WAN light is blinking, important files are downloading.
Do not unplug the power or lift the receiver on your phone
at this time, as it may cause you to lose service.
- Once the green VOIP light is on, you are ready to place
calls. Pick up your phone receiver. The PH1 light should
be a steady green and you should hear dial tone. You have
finished the voice portion of installation and can begin
making VoIP calls. (Note: when you hang up the receiver, the
PH1 light will turn off).
- If you already have devices connected to the LAN ports
of your router, you do not need to change how they are connected.
If the router is new to your home network, connect Ethernet
cables from the LAN ports to each of your computers or other
network devices.
- Power up the router and wait for the WAN port to establish
a connection (see your router’s accompanying documentation
for how to verify a WAN connection through your broadband connection).
- Power up your computers. After the operating systems load,
use a web browser to verify that you can access the internet
through your broadband connection.

* These guides represent the supported
configurations for Lingo's VoIP Service. These options are typical of most
home and small office networks and should suit your needs for
integrating Lingo. Lingo recognizes that some customers may
wish to attempt non-standard configurations. Support for these
VoIP configurations
will be handled on a best-effort approach as our support team’s
time permits. This means that our technicians will assist you
in non-standard configurations, but we do not guarantee that
the Lingo Phone Adapter and/or broadband internet connectivity will be made
to function in these non-supported arrangements.
