Installation with Multiple Lingo Phone Adapters*

In order to start using your Lingo Internet phone service, you will need to install your Lingo Phone Adapter. Please read the following VoIP setup instructions for multiple computers carefully.

NOTE: If you currently use a USB connection between your computer and your Cable/DSL modem for your Internet connection, you will need to upgrade to an Ethernet connection. This may require you to purchase and install a Network Interface Card (NIC) for your computer.

This set up does not allow your Lingo Phone Adapter to prioritize your Internet voice traffic over your data traffic. This may adversely effect the consistency of your call quality. However, this is the only recommended method for using multiple adapters with a single Internet connection.

What you will need for each Lingo Phone Adapter installed:

  • One Ethernet cable (a green one is included in your start-up kit).
  • One standard phone line (two are included in your start-up kit).
  • One standard analog phone.
  • The Lingo Phone Adapter.
  • The Lingo Phone Adapter power supply.
  • Optional: a second Ethernet cable is needed if attaching a device to the Lingo Adapter’s ENET port.
  1. Turn off the power for all the devices on your network, including your Cable/DSL modem to your Internet connection, and computer.

  2. Connect an Ethernet cable (the green one included with your Lingo Phone Adapter or another cable just like it) from the Cable/DSL modem’s Ethernet port to the WAN port on your router.

  3. For each of your Lingo Phone Adapters, connect an Ethernet cable from an unused LAN port on your router, to the WAN port on the back of your Lingo Phone Adapter. (Note: if all ports are taken replace an existing device’s connection with an Ethernet connection to the Lingo Phone Adapter, then connect an Ethernet cable from the ENET port on the back of the Lingo Phone Adapter to the Ethernet port on the replaced device.)

  4. Connect a standard analog phone to the PH1 port on the back of each Lingo Phone Adapter using a standard phone line. (Note: any phone designed for residential use is an analog phone and will work. For cordless phone systems, make sure you are connecting to the base/transmitter.

  5. Turn on the Cable/DSL modem to your Internet connection. Wait until it is successfully connected (see your modem’s user manual or contact your ISP if you are unsure of how to tell when the modem is connected).

  6. Turn on the router and wait for the WAN port to establish an Internet connection (see your router’s accompanying documentation for how to verify a WAN connection).

  7. Connect the provided power cables to the POWER port on the back each Lingo Phone Adapter, connect other end to any standard home power outlets (wall plug, surge-protector, etc).

  8. Verify the green POWER lights on the front of the Lingo Phone Adapter are a steady green. If they are not, check your power connections again.

  9. The WAN lights on the front of the Lingo Phone Adapters will begin as a steady green, then start flashing as they connect to the internet (you may hear soft “click” sounds. This is normal).

  10. While the WAN lights are blinking, important files are downloading. Do not unplug the power or lift the receiver on your phones at this time, as it may cause you to lose service.

  11. Once the green VOIP lights are on, you are ready to place calls. Pick up one of your phone receivers. The PH1 light on the attached Lingo Phone Adapter should be a steady green and you should hear dial tone. You have finished the voice portion of installation and can begin making calls. (Note: when you hang up the receiver, the PH1 light will turn off). Repeat this test for all other Lingo Phone Adapters.

  12. Turn on your computers. After the operating systems load, use a web browser to verify that you can access the internet.
